BOTOX® and Dysport®, side by side
Both are prescription botulinum toxin type A products. They are not interchangeable and their units are not equivalent; your injector chooses based on the area and your goals.
What it is
An FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A product used to temporarily reduce the activity of the muscles that create dynamic lines.
Procedure
A few small injections with a fine needle into the targeted muscles. About 15 to 30 minutes in the chair.
Onset and duration
Typically visible within 3 to 7 days, with full effect around two weeks. Most people see results for about 3 to 4 months.
Recovery
Back to your day right away. Avoid lying flat, strenuous exercise, and rubbing the area for about four hours. Mild redness or a small bruise can happen.
What it is
An FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A product; its approved cosmetic use is moderate to severe frown lines between the brows.
Procedure
Same approach: small injections into targeted muscles, about 15 to 30 minutes. Dysport tends to spread a little more, which some injectors prefer for broader areas like the forehead.
Onset and duration
Often visible within 2 to 5 days, full effect by about two weeks. Most people see results for roughly 3 to 4 months.
Recovery
No downtime. Same four-hour guidance: stay upright, skip hard exercise, and leave the area alone.
Pricing is per unit and confirmed at your consultation once your injector maps the areas and units.
What to expect, start to finish
The whole first visit is about 45 minutes; return visits are quicker.
Consultation
Your goals, history, prior treatments, and a look at how your face moves.

Your injector marks the areas and decides product and units.

Questions people ask
How long does it take to work?
BOTOX® and Dysport® typically start showing within 3 to 7 days, some people as early as 24 to 48 hours, with full effect around two weeks. Most people see results for 3 to 4 months depending on the area and the individual.
What is the difference between BOTOX® and Dysport®?
Both are botulinum toxin type A products that temporarily reduce muscle activity. BOTOX® is often chosen for precise, smaller areas; Dysport® spreads a little more and can suit broader areas, and may take effect slightly faster. Their units are not interchangeable. Your injector chooses based on the area and your goals.
Does it hurt?
A brief sting from a very fine needle, usually described as mild. Numbing cream is available. Slight redness or a small bump at the injection site fades quickly.
What are the side effects?
Common: redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site, and occasionally a headache. Less common: temporary eyelid or brow drooping, asymmetry, or muscle weakness near the area, and rarely flu-like symptoms or allergic reaction. Very rarely, effects can spread beyond the treated area; call us right away for trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing.
How long until I can lie down?
Stay upright for about four hours after treatment so the product settles where it was placed.
Is it available in Englewood?

Important treatment information. Wrinkle relaxer treatments offered by AMS Wellness & IV may include FDA-approved prescription botulinum toxin products such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®. These treatments work by temporarily reducing targeted muscle activity to soften the appearance of dynamic facial lines and wrinkles. Treatment recommendations, injection locations, product selection, and dosing are individualized based on each patient's anatomy, medical history, aesthetic goals, and clinical evaluation. Certain treatment areas or techniques discussed on this website may represent off-label use of an FDA-approved product when medically appropriate.
Results vary from patient to patient and are temporary. No specific cosmetic outcome or duration of effect can be guaranteed. As with any medical treatment, botulinum toxin injections may cause side effects, including temporary pain, swelling, bruising, redness, headache, facial asymmetry, muscle weakness, eyelid or eyebrow drooping, and other injection-related effects. Rare but serious complications may occur, including difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing if the effects of botulinum toxin spread beyond the injection area. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are different products, and their dosage units are not interchangeable or directly equivalent.
Wrinkle relaxer treatments are provided only after an appropriate medical evaluation and determination that treatment is suitable for the individual patient. Patients should disclose medications, allergies, medical conditions, previous botulinum toxin treatments, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, and any history of neuromuscular disorders before treatment. Information provided on this website is intended for general educational purposes and does not replace an individualized consultation with a qualified healthcare provider.
